Gianfranco Zola hopes Tottenham Hotspur are not about to return to their best

Tottenham Hotspur are set to take on Gianfranco Zola's former side, Chelsea, at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

Gianfranco Zola has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on 25th November, that he hopes Tottenham Hotspur do not return to their best against Chelsea this weekend.

Spurs have won just once in their last nine matches across all competitions, and their last performance against Monaco was highly disappointing.

Monaco knocked Mauricio Pochettino’s side out of the Champions League on Tuesday, with Spurs putting in a performance well below par.

Tottenham now face the daunting task of travelling to Stamford Bridge to play against an in-form Chelsea side.

The Blues have raced to the top of the Premier League table, after a strong run of form.

Chelsea go into the London derby as the heavy favourites to win, but Zola knows of the threat that Tottenham can pose, if they are at their best.

“There was a moment when I saw them playing against Manchester City and I thought they were outstanding,” the former Italian international striker said.

“Now, they are probably not at the same level. But that’s part of the game, you hit a peak and then come back at little bit. I really hope that it’s not going to be tomorrow [that they get back to their best], but they have a lot of good young players.”

Despite Tottenham’s dip in form, they are still unbeaten in Premier League action this season.

Spurs are currently in fifth place in the top flight standings, and if they are able to beat Chelsea, they will move to just one point behind Antonio Conte’s side.
