Speaking to the club's official website, Blackburn Rovers boss Owen Coyle has revealed that he is hoping to welcome back Marvin Emnes for his side's daunting visit to runaway Championship leaders Newcastle.

The Swansea loanee sat out last weekend's win over Brentford with a hamstring injury, but the Dutchman is expected to be back in contention as Rovers head to St James' Park.

"Marvin Emnes has managed to train with the squad today so I'm hopeful that he will be involved with the 18," Coyle said.

"Having him back involved would be a big boost because he is a game changer, he can score goals, he can score great goals so it would be great having him back," he added.

The Scot also went on to say that Danny Guthrie is likely to miss out on a reunion with his former club, while defender Gordon Greer is also not expected to feature.

"Greer and Guthrie are probably still going to miss out, they've not been able to go out with the group as yet. Saturday will probably come to soon for them but I'm hopeful they'll be okay for next week," he said.

Tommie Hoban, Elliott Ward and Adam Henley are also set to miss the trip to the north east, with Rovers looking to build on the 3-2 victory over Brentford last time out.

Coyle's side remain in the bottom three going into this weekend despite that victory, and they are huge underdogs against a Newcastle side who have won nine consecutive matches in all competitions.

The return of Emnes will boost their attacking ranks, however, and in Sam Gallagher and Danny Graham they are not short of attacking players who could cause the hosts problems.
