Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Blackburn Rovers manager Owen Coyle has backed Newcastle United to win the Championship this season.

Rafa Benitez’s side were strong favourites to win the title this season after relegation from the Premier League last year.

After a shaky start, they have settled well currently topping the table amid a run of nine straight wins in all competitions.

It has left most believing that the title is theirs to lose; especially given they have arguably the best squad in the division.

And as far as Coyle, whose Blackburn side take on the Magpies this weekend, is concerned they will be champions.

“We can go to Newcastle and be really positive, as we will be,” he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“Rafa will know we are a good side and I am very respectful - I think they have got a lot of quality and I think they will win the league. But there is no reason why we can’t go there and shock them.”

Unfortunately for Coyle, it will take some effort for his Blackburn team to come away with a win from this game.

They are currently 17th in the table, having managed just 16 points from their first 17 games of the season.

Newcastle, as already mentioned, are in fine form and are also unbeaten in all competitions since Wolves secured a 2-0 win at St James Park back in September.

That means Coyle and his men have some work to do if they are to leave Newcastle with a point, let alone all three.
