It appears that one of Leeds United’s summer loan recruits has had to cut short his spell in Yorkshire and head back to Italy. Relax Leeds fans, Pontus Jansson remains at the club, but teenager Dario Meadows has seemingly headed back to AS Roma.

Leeds surprised many when they brought in the player from the Italian capital in August. The 17-year-old, who was born in Kent but moved to Italy aged six, told the official Leeds website, as reported by Sky Sports, upon his move to the club:

“I’ve played for AS Roma for eight years and now I’m excited for this opportunity on loan at Leeds United…

“Leeds have great history and are one of the best clubs in England for producing young players, I’m really happy to be here.”

But then, nothing. His name was not popping up in under-18 or under-23 sides and Leeds fans were wondering where he was.

Rumours began circling at the end of October that he had left Leeds and returned to Italy. Then, this week, his cousin confirmed that Meadows was no longer at Leeds as he was not eligible to play for the club due to his age:

It is a shame for Leeds, who looked to have a top talent with the club until the end of the season.

The good news? Meadows turns 18 at the end of January and it will be interesting to see if Leeds decide to bring him back to West Yorkshire at the turn of the year.
