West Ham are currently 17th in the table, just a point outside the relegation zone.

West Ham United star Dimitri Payet has admitted to Canal Plus that Slaven Bilic’s side are lacking confidence.

The Hammers enjoyed a fine first campaign under Bilic last year, finishing seventh in the table and impressing many.

Their fans were expecting big things this season as a result, especially with the club moving to their shiny new home at the London Stadium.

Things have not gone to plan, though, with the Hammers picking up just three wins from their first 11 games of the campaign.

That leaves them sitting at the wrong end of the table in 17th place, just one point outside of the relegation zone.

Confidence around the club is low at this moment in time and Payet has admitted as much in his latest interview.

"When you're 16th or 17th, you cannot be satisfied collectively and personally”, he told Canal Plus.

“We find ourselves in a situation which is not natural. We are lacking confidence in games. As far as I am concerned, I try to give my best all the time.”

If West Ham are to turn around their current poor start to the season, getting Payet back to his best will be key.

The Frenchman has struggled for his best form so far, failing to hit the heights that he managed last year.

Stats show he is registering fewer shots on target per game compared to this stage last season and that shows in his goal tally, with just the one to his name compared to five last year.

With the Hammers struggling for goals overall, that has had a big effect on their form and getting him back to his best is sure to play a big role in turning their season around.
