The goalkeeper has taken over Simon Mignolet as the Liverpool number one this season.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, former Reds goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar has heaped praise on current number one Loris Karius.

The German goalkeeper arrived at Anfield from Mainz as one of Jurgen Klopp’s first signings of the summer transfer window.

He had to wait for his chance in the first team, though, with a broken hand picked up in pre-season seeing him ruled out for the beginning of the campaign.

Since returning from that injury he has established himself as the number one at the club, replacing Simon Mignolet in the role.

He has largely impressed, despite his side’s overall defensive issues and Grobbelaar is certainly one who has a high opinion of the 23-year-old.

“Karius has impressed me,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“It’s not easy when you join a club like Liverpool with all the pressure and expectation. But Karius seems to have adjusted to it well.

“I hope he can go on and keep the No 1 spot for many, many years. He’s certainly got the potential to do that.”

For now, Karius must simply focus on adding more clean sheets to his record this season.

The German has only managed one in his first six league games, conceding six goals in total in that time.

He will be disappointed with that record and both he and Liverpool will be keen to see a vast improvement moving forward as they eye a title challenge this season.
