West Ham and England's Aaron Cresswell
Hammers fans have long bemoaned a lack of recognition for their classy attack-minded defender.
A host of pundits and supporters of other clubs even felt the Liverpudlian deserved a chance after two impeccable seasons in the claret and blue since signing from Ipswich Town.
Back fit and in the Three Lions setup
Contributing a number of assists and some spectacular goals along the way too, Cresswell looked to have done enough to earn a place in England's Euro 2016 squad under Roy Hodgson.
He was snubbed, though, in what may have been a blessing for the player.
Injury denied Cresswell what would surely have been his first cap when the man who signed him for West Ham, Sam Allardyce, took over as England boss.
England interim manager Gareth Southgate
But the pacy star is back in action and has now been called up to replace Danny Drinkwater in Gareth Southgate's second Three Lions squad to face Scotland and Spain.
And here is how Twitter has been reacting to the news.
