Rotherham United have sacked manager Alan Stubbs the club have confirmed on their official website.

The Millers have decided to axe the former Bolton and Celtic defender after just five months in charge of the South Yorkshire club.

Stubbs replaced Neil Warnock at the New York Stadium in June after the veteran boss opted against extending his stay at the club despite leading them to survival last season.

Stubbs, who left Hibernian after leading them to Scottish Cup glory last season to take over at Rotherham, has struggled in his first managerial role in England with the Millers winning just one of their 13 league games.

Rotherham are rock bottom of the Championship table with just six points and they have lost all seven away league games this season.

Rotherham's 4-2 defeat to Birmingham City on Tuesday was the last straw for the club's board and they have decided to look to bring in a new man to try and rescue their season.

It means Rotherham are now looking for their fifth manager since the start of the 2015-16 season.
