It was a night that won't live long in the memory for goals, but Tottenham fans will be travelling home admitting it was vital that they were able to hold on for a valuable point against Bayer Leverkusen. After the game, Mauricio Pochettino spoke to Tottenham’s website about the draw.

Tottenham will feel they were lucky to escape the BayArena with a point after a second-half siege from the hosts. However, in the first-half, Spurs were the better side and they could have taken a lead into the break.

Dele Alli, Vincent Janssen and Erik Lamela all had chances in the first-half, but they were denied by a combination of blocks, the goalkeeper and the woodwork.

In the second 45, Leverkusen ramped up the pressure as they looked to take the lead. Former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez should have scored almost immediately after the break as he guided a cross towards goal from a few yards out. However, Hugo Lloris somehow managed to claw the ball off his own line as he scrambled across goal.

There were appeals to the referees from the Leverkusen players, but they were waved away as the ball had not crossed the line. It was a phenomenal save, and it was one that seemed to galvanise Tottenham as they held out for the point.

The draw leaves Tottenham in second place in group e with four points, one ahead of last night's hosts.

After the game, Pochettino spoke to Tottenham’s website: "It was the game we expected, a very tough game, difficult for both sides. In the end I'm pleased with the point".

"I thought we were better in the first half, they were better in the second half. It was two different halves".

"I'm pleased with the effort because this is a team that plays well, plays aggressive and is always difficult to play against here at the BayArena. We're still fighting and with the draw between CSKA and Monaco, we're in the same position as before".

Tottenham did of course miss the chance to go top of their group following Monaco and CSKA Moscow's draw, however, Pochettino will be pleased with how things have panned out on the night as it was a game they were more likely to lose on the second-half showing.

Tottenham now know that their destiny is in their own hands, with three games still to play in the group stage.
