Just when will Toni Martinez get his chance for West Ham?

The West Ham United teenager deserves a place on the bench against Chelsea later this month.

West Ham United need goals, and it seems the only striker scoring them on a regular basis is one who cannot get anywhere near the first-team in the form of Toni Martinez.

To put things into context, the recent addition is currently making waves at under-23 level, scoring seven goals in just seven appearances and looking every inch a star in the making.

Doing the same thing in the Premier League is altogether different and no one expects the Spanish teenager to be an instant hit at the London Stadium. But he does at least deserve a chance.

While West Ham’s focus is, understandably, on the league as they bid to continue their climb away from the relegation zone, the upcoming EFL Cup clash against Chelsea gives Hammers boss Slaven Bilic the perfect chance to make some changes.

Ashley Fletcher and Jonathan Calleri are ahead of Martinez in the pecking order and both should start. However, a place on the bench is not beyond the realms of possibility for the 19-year-old who really does deserve a chance to prove his worth at a higher level.

West Ham are in dire need of some saviours after their poor start to the campaign, so why shouldn’t Martinez be one of them?

A cameo appearance from the bench in a cup competition could be the risk free chance to introduce him to a fan base that is already excited by his potential and want to see him in the flesh.
