Chris Kirkland has told Sky Sports News, which was broadcast on 19th October, that he believes Sheffield Wednesday will be competing at the top end of the Championship table by the end of the season.

Wednesday made a slow start to the new campaign, but they have recovered in recent weeks.

The Owls have started to click into gear of late, and they have won five of their last seven matches.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side are now in seventh place in the Championship table, but Kirkland believes that his former side can climb even higher.

“I think Sheffield Wednesday will come strong again,” Kirkland said. “They have the money to strengthen in January if they need to.”

Wednesday made plenty of new additions during the summer transfer window, and it seemed to take a while for the recruits to settle in at Hillsborough.

However, now they have, Wednesday appear to be going from strength to strength.

The Owls made it all the way to the play off final last season, and there are hopes that they can go one step further this time around.

Wednesday are next in action later this evening, when they take on Cardiff City.
