West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino has been put on a special weight loss regime after being tested as overweight, according to a report by Sky Sports.

Berahino has not featured for The Baggies since defeat to Bournemouth on September 10th and was left out of the squad to play Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

Sky Sports say it's because the 23-year-old was deemed several pounds overweight by the club in tests run during the international break and West Brom have put the forward on a strict training programme in order to get him fit for action as soon as possible.

Berahino's weight issues are yet another black mark on his career with his time at the Hawthorns surely coming to an end.

His contract runs out at the end of the season with Stoke City failing in a bid to bring the former England Under-21 striker to The Potters in the summer.

He was famously outspoken about former West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace denying him the chance to move to Tottenham in last season's window and in recent years his form and appearances for The Baggies have tailed off.

Berahino made just 17 starts last season in the Premier League scoring four times and is yet to open his account this season with just 245 minutes under his belt.

Unlikely to be fit in time to start against Liverpool this Saturday, Berahino faces a fight to restore himself in Tony Pulis' line-up with Salomon Rondon leading the line to good effect in his absence.

With his attitude and form called into question, Berahino won't have too many clubs queuing at his door should he leave West Brom but has to get himself fit and firing in order to save his career.
