Tottenham Hotspur’s new striker Vincent Janssen has admitted he expected more opportunities when Harry Kane suffered his recent ankle injury.

The Dutch striker has found another rival for the striking position in the shape of in-form Heung-min Son and the Netherlands international has still not scored in the Premier League since his move to the club.

It looks like he might be on the sidelines again tonight when Spurs take on Son’s former club Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

Speaking to Helden, the Dutchman admitted that he would like to have become the immediate number one choice in Kane’s absence – but that he remains calm about his future with the club:

"Of course, I had hoped that I would play more often when Kane got injured. But I do not need to panic, I have always and everywhere to win trust. And the club gives me time to get used to the level of the Premier League."

Janssen has impressed Spurs fans with his attitude and with his back to goal but his lack of goals is becoming something of a concern for the club.

He will have to be concerned, especially with Son’s good form, that Kane is also recovering faster than expected from his ankle ailment and that he may very soon be firmly back out of contention.

Hopefully he can get scoring goals as soon as possible to put his own mind at ease.
