Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has claimed that midfielder Emre Can looks overweight.

Liverpool drew 0-0 with Manchester United at Anfield last night.

It was the 22-year-old's first Premier League start for the Reds in a season which has seen him reduced to cameo appearances due to an ankle injury.

And the Germany international looked a little rusty as Can seemed somewhat off the pace against United last night.

Warnock, who spent five years on Liverpool's books until 2007, says the towering midfielder looked like he was carrying a bit of timber.

Whether he's overweight or not, Can certainly did not look to be at his best, but that is to be expected on his first start of the campaign. The truth is that a fully-fit Can is a huge asset to Liverpool and he proved that for most of last season. When he is match fit, Reds fans can expect much better showings from him on a regular basis.
