Paul Merson has hailed Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke to Sky Sports, saying the forward reminds him of Sunderland legend Niall Quinn.

The Belgian striker joined the Eagles in the summer transfer window in a big money move from Liverpool.

He has been a big hit at Selhurst Park; sitting as their top goalscorer so far with three goals in his first six Premier League games.

It is a welcome return to form for the forward, who endured a difficult time with Liverpool, to say the least, before his move this summer.

One man who has been impressed is Merson, who told Sky Sports he thinks Benteke is as good anybody.

“If you play to this blokes strengths he’s as good as anybody, I think he’s unplayable,” he said.

“He reminds me of a Niall Quinn. When Quinny went up for a header he put it where he wanted it to go and this lad is exactly the same.”

It now remains to be seen if Benteke can continue his fine form and play a big role for Palace this season.

The Eagles have long lacked a regular goalscorer, with their failure to find one having been something that has held them back for a number of years.

So far Benteke has perfectly fit into the system they employ and if he can continue to find the back of the net then Alan Pardew’s side could be very dangerous this season.
