Leeds conceded in the last minute to draw 1-1 with Wigan at Elland Road.
Hadi Sacko of Leeds United in action with Jack Payne of Huddersfield Town
Leeds United fans were left deflated once again this evening, after the Yorkshire club drew 1-1 with Wigan Athletic at Elland Road.
Leeds looked like they were on their way to all three points after Chris Wood had smashed in a goal to give them the lead.
But they conceded in the last minute of the game, again after failing to defend a corner kick, as Shaun MacDonald’s shot ricocheted into the back of Rob Green’s net off the post.
Leeds fans were again left slightly confused by the substitutions from their manager Garry Monk.
Leeds' Hadi Sacko clashes with Kyle Bartley
Noel Whelan, a former Leeds striker, was critical of Monk’s replacements at the weekend in the 1-0 defeat at Derby County. Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds tonight he felt much the same – believing the game changed after winger Hadi Sacko was replaced by Matt Grimes:
“I just felt it all changed when Sacko came off.
“We’re not looking in behind, we’re not looking forward enough then because you’ve got a player that doesn’t have the pace that he’s got or that threat.
“We stopped doing the things that were given us joy.
“Sacko comes off and you’ve just got someone that hangs around in midfield. For me that’s a defensive move. That’s not a substitution that’s a benefit for the team.”
Sacko was having a great game for Leeds, with his run and cross creating the goal. But as soon as he came off Leeds began to sit back and Wigan slowly turned the screw.
Grimes was, again, poor and Leeds fans will be wondering what the thought process was with his introduction to the game.
Hopefully Monk can get things right from the bench in his next game.
