Dwight Gayle has told the Shields Gazette that he absolutely loves Rafael Benitez’s tactics at Newcastle United.
Gayle has been given the task of leading Newcastle’s attacking line this term, with the likes of Ayoze Perez and Mohamed Diame generally playing just behind him.
Gayle is expected to play on the shoulder of the last defender, and he has thrived since moving to St. James’ Park.
The 25-year-old has netted nine goals in his first 10 Championship matches, putting him at the top of the division’s scoring charts.
And Gayle said: “Perhaps I’m not the biggest or strongest, but the way Rafa’s got us playing is fantastic for me. It works wonderfully. Long may it continue.”
Newcastle have a number of striking options, but Gayle’s recent displays seem to have established him as the main man.
The former Crystal Palace man netted twice in Newcastle’s most recent contest, which they won 3-1 against Brentford.
Gayle will be hoping to keep up his excellent scoring form up by hitting the back of the net this evening, during Newcastle’s match against Barnsley.
