The Ivorian joined Cardiff City on a free transfer and scored on his debut.
Cardiff’s Sol Bamba scores their second goal
The Ivorian defender’s departure from Leeds United was announced on September 1st, the day after the transfer window shut. This, to the naked eye, appeared to suggest Bamba was ineligible to play for the Bluebirds until January. Unless of course he was in fact released before the deadline.
That was assumed to be the case and now Crawley have confirmed as such. They were left perturbed after watching Bamba star for Cardiff – whilst Dean Cox, who was released by Leyton Orient on September 1st, has to wait until January to make his Red Devils debut.
As reported in the Crawley News the club’s operations director Kelly Derham had this to say:
"There did appear to be an anomaly so we contacted the Football League and they have confirmed to us that Sol Bamba's contract was cancelled prior to the end of the transfer window on August 31.
"I'd like to thank those fans who got in touch. Dean is desperate to pull on the Crawley Town shirt for the first time but it won't be until January 2 at the earliest unfortunately."
Sol Bamba celebrates after scoring the first goal for Leeds United
Bamba started the season as Leeds United’s club captain but he struggled for form at the club under new manager Garry Monk.
Leeds have since replaced him as captain with Liam Bridcutt whilst replacement centre-halves Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley have, arguably, been Leeds’ best players so far this season.
