Sunderland defender Billy Jones has told the club’s official website that they must dust themselves down and keep working on the training pitch to turn around their poor start to the season.

The Black Cats are without a win in their first eight games of the season under new manager David Moyes.

Last weekend saw them put in arguably their most disappointing performance to date as they were comfortably beaten by fellow strugglers Stoke City.

Next weekend sees Sunderland taking on West Ham United, who have only managed two wins all season themselves.

It has turned into a must-win game, even at this early stage, and Jones has told his teammates to dust themselves down and put everything into the clash with the Hammers.

“On a personal note it’s good to be fit again, but it’s obviously not the result we were looking for following the international break,” he told the club’s official website.

“We need to dust ourselves down and keep working hard on the training pitch, and then we need to put everything into our performance next weekend against West Ham United.”

Sunderland are currently bottom of the table with just a point to their name so far this season.

They are already four points from safety and will be keen to ensure that gap does not grow to one they cannot overcome.

Their next game sees them taking on West Ham side that has struggled for much of the campaign, although they did get back to winning ways last time out.
