Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer spoke highly of Everton defender Ashley Williams on Match of the Day on BBC One on Saturday night (broadcast from 10:25pm, October 15, 2016).
The former Newcastle striker was impressed with the performance of Williams for Everton against Manchester City at the weekend.
The 32-year-old centre-back, who joined the Toffees from Swansea City in the summer transfer window, started the Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon and played for the entire 90 minutes.
Shearer was following the game, and he was impressed with the role that Williams played in helping Ronald Koeman’s side earn a 1-1 draw against City.
“Ashley Williams has added strength and steel to that back-four, right place, right time,” said Shearer on Match of the Day on BBC One on Saturday night (broadcast from 10:25pm, October 15, 2016).
“He is an organiser, he is a leader, he pulls people around. He is not scared to give teammates a telling-off if he needs to.”

Over the course of the 90 minutes at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, hosts City had 72% of the possession, took 19 shots of which eight were on target, and earned 13 corners, according to BBC Sport.
Visitors Everton had only 28% of the possession, took three shots of which two were on target, and earned one corner, according to BBC Sport.
