West Ham United defeated Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park on Saturday evening.

Former player and current pundit Terry Butcher has labelled West Ham United defender Winston Reid as colossus following his display in the Hammers’ 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, the BBC report.
West Ham headed to Selhurst Park looking to put behind them their poor form of late, and they got off to a decent start as Manuel Lanzino put the visitors ahead midway through the first half.
Palace responded and could have levelled from the penalty spot, yet Christian Benteke sent his penalty wide and then moments later saw a powerful header come back off the post.

The Eagles piled on the pressure in the second period as they searched for an equaliser, yet West Ham – who saw Aaron Cresswell dismissed for two yellow cards – managed to hold on for all three points.
Co-commentating for the BBC, Butcher felt it was a deserved win for West Ham and singled out Winston Reid for praise as he labelled the defender a colossus at the back for the visiting side.
“West Ham were the better side and had to dig in when Aaron Cresswell was sent off. They deserved the victory. Winston Reid had the game of his life,” Butcher explained.
“West Ham’s defence mopped up everything pretty well. It’s all been very direct from Palace which has been too easy to deal with. Winston Reid was a colossus at the back for West Ham.”

West Ham’s defending hasn’t been particularly good this season with the likes of James Collins and Angelo Ogbonna underporming, yet if it wasn’t for Reid it arguably could have been much worse.
The international centre-back on his day is among the best in the Premier League, and against Palace he dealt with the threat of Benteke well and matched his strength in the air.
The victory moves West Ham out of the relegation zone and up to 15th in the table.
