The young forward never had the chance to impress on loan at Leeds United.

Of all Leeds United signings under owner Massimo Cellino, the loan deal that brought Brian Montenegro to Elland Road back in 2014 was among the strangest, not for his lack of talent, but for his failure to get sufficient chances at the club.
Montenegro was 21 when he signed for Leeds on loan from Nacional, and despite only recently agreeing a deal with the Paraguayan club his temporary contract at Elland Road included the option of a permanent transfer the following summer.

Despite his reputation in his homeland, the striker featured only six times for Leeds and left with many fans scratching their heads as to his lack of opportunities. So how has he done since?
Shortly after heading back to Nacional he hit top form, ending last season with a superb 15 goals in just 17 league games.
After that great run of form it seemed a loan move to Cerro Porteno was in the offing but that move ultimately fell through.

He is now on loan at Club Atletico Lanus, for whom he has featured three times to date but is yet to score a goal.
Playing for the Argentine club is a step up for the former Leeds loanee and he will be hoping to get back to his best as soon as possible.
Still only 23, Montenegro has plenty of time to fulfil his potential, yet when you consider how he tore up the Paraguayan league last season and impressed for Leeds’ under-21s, it may never be clear why he was overlooked during his brief spell in England.
