Sunderland forward Wahbi Khazri is being targeted by La Liga side Espanyol according to the Shields Gazette.

The 25-year-old Tunisia international moved to the Stadium of Light in January on a four-and-a-half year deal, but has struggled to establish himself in the Black Cats' first team, even more so after the arrival of David Moyes.

Khazri made 14 appearances for Sam Allardyce's Sunderland last term, scoring twice and registering an assist.

His direct playing style, and high octane energy levels injected a much needed boost into the Black Cats' stuttering season after his arrival during the winter transfer window, but there is obviously something about the Tunisian that does not appeal to Moyes.

The Shields Gazette claim that a number of Ligue 1 sides could be tempted to enter a bidding war for Khazri in January, should Sunderland make him officially available.

The Wearside outfit currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table, with just two points, and have yet to register a league win.

With the mess they currently find themselves in, Moyes would surely have nothing to lose by throwing Khazri into the mix, and the amount of game time that he receives between now and January will arguably have a huge bearing on his future in the North East.
