Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi has declared himself 100 per cent fit after making his comeback from a latest injury last night.

Berardi was taken off just 22 minutes into the opening game of the season v QPR with yet another injury problem.

The 28-year-old’s Elland Road career has been blighted by niggling injury trouble and he would have been hoping to have put such woes behind him.

He has now told the official Leeds United website, following an appearance for the Leeds under-23s against Bristol City, that he is now back to his full fitness – ahead of a potential return to first-team action:

“I feel good.

“It was good for me to play on Monday night.

“I had a problem in pre-season then I did three weeks rehab but had a problem again after 20 minutes against QPR.

“It’s been very difficult for me having to start again last month, but now I’m feeling 100 per cent. Everything is okay – my ankle and my hamstring.

“It’s been a little bit frustrating but the boys and the staff have helped me a lot. Now I’m hoping to be involved with the team again next week.”

The Swiss defender, who has played for his country at international level, is one of the more versatile and reliable players in the Leeds United squad and his presence will certainly be welcomed back in the fold.

Berardi will certainly have a challenge getting back in the first-team at Leeds.

Luke Ayling has performed well at right-back since his arrival and Charlie Taylor is unlikely to get dropped either. Even Lewie Coyle will fancy rivalling him for the right-back slot.

But the Leeds star will surely just be pleased to have gotten over his latest injury trouble.
