HITC Sport understands Tranmere eye move for Morecambe chief.
Morecambe manager Jim Bentley
Morecambe boss Jim Bentley is in the frame for the vacant manager's job at Tranmere Rovers, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Tranmere are searching for a new manager after parting company with previous boss Gary Brabin earlier this month after 16 months in charge at Prenton Park.
Brabin's former assistant Paul Carden is currently in caretaker charge of Tranmere, but the club are keen to bring in a new man as soon as possible.
A whole host of names have been linked with the vacancy at the National League side, but Bentley is thought to figure highly on the club's wanted list.
Bentley is highly regarded in coaching circles and is currently one of the longest serving managers in England after taking over at Morecambe in 2011.
The 40-year-old has helped establish Morecambe as a League Two club and they are currently sitting in seventh spot in the table just four points off leaders Plymouth Argyle.
Tranmere see Bentley as the man to help lead them back to the Football League with the former defender working miracles at Morecambe on a shoestring budget.
