An abject Leeds United went down 1-0 to their Yorkshire rivals.

Neil Redfearn has intimated to TV Yorkshire that the Leeds United players were guilty of a lack of effort in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town.

Leeds suffered their second defeat on the spin as Aaron Mooy’s 55th-minute strike settled a tight and tempestuous Yorkshire derby in which neither side really left the pitch with a great deal of credit it has to be said.

The Whites finished the contest with four shots – two on target and two off target – and overall it was not the up-and-at-them display manager Garry Monk would’ve wanted.

Monk’s side went down 3-1 to Nottingham Forest last time around, and now sit 22nd in the Championship table after losing four of their six league games.

And Redfearn believes that United players did not give their all to the cause yesterday in a lack of passion which the ex-Leeds boss says is simply “criminal”.

“I looked today and Leeds lay down a little bit,” he told TV Yorkshire. “If Leeds had’ve stepped into Huddersfield and pushed the game up 10 or 15 yards, then I think Huddersfield are beatable if I’m honest.

“It looked that way [like Leeds were lying down] which is criminal. It can’t happen. You can get beat, but what you can guarantee is effort and desire, and both were lacking today.”

Leeds face Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night knowing that another defeat would surely see Monk come under increasing pressure as far as keeping his job goes.
