Chelsea manager Antonio Conte
Chelsea head into the final hours of transfer deadline day looking to make some big moves in what could be a busy time for manager Antonio Conte.
With the signings of only Leicester City's N'Golo Kante and Olympique Marseille's Michy Batshuayi completed in the current transfer window so far, Conte will look to strengthen his side before the 11pm deadline.
Throughout the summer Chelsea have been frustrated as they have seen a number of their transfer targets refuse potential moves, but as the club enters the final hours of the transfer window Conte has made a move to close in on reinforcements.
Chelsea's main targets have been central defenders, an area Conte feels needs addressing urgently, and having failed in his pursuit of initial target Leonardo Bonucci, the club is said to have made unsuccessful bids for Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly and AC Milan's Alessio Romagnoli.

With Torino' Nikola Maksimovic and Lazio's Stefan de Vrij also highlighted as potential targets, Conte made a move Tuesday evening for Paris Saint Germain's former Chelsea defender David Luiz (Sky Sports). The Brazilian defender, signed by PSG from Chelsea in a £50 million move two years ago, could be set for a sensational return to The Blues as Conte scrambles for defensive reinforcements in the final hours of the transfer window.

Chelsea also need to add left-back options, and while Conte was earlier in the summer thought to keen on bringing Wolfsburg's Ricardo Rodriguez, according to The Guardian Chelsea now seem set on bringing Fiorentina's Marcos Alonso to Stamford Bridge in a £23 million deal.
But it isn't just defensively that Conte will be looking to strengthen. Chelsea are said by the Daily Mail to be on the verge of signing Inter Milan's Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, after having a bid accepted for player, and there still remains a remote possibility that the club could move for Real Madrid's James Rodriguez. The Mirror is reporting that Chelsea could be set to make a late move for the Colombian star.

But as the transfer window draws to a close, Conte may also look to offload a number of fringe players with the possiblity of Cesc Fabregas and Juan Cuadrado forcing through late moves to join Baba Rahman and Loic Remy through Stamford Bridge exit, at least loan deals.
