According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Tottenham have opened negotiations with Valencia over a possible deal for goalkeeper Diego Alves.

Spurs have only added two new faces this summer but are expected to make move on deadline day, with manager Mauricio Pochettino keen to bring in a new goalkeeper

Hugo Lloris is currently out injured, and whilst Michel Vorm impressed against Liverpool on Saturday afternoon, it seems that Spurs are still looking to add more cover between the sticks.

Now, Marca report that, whilst Spurs have agreed a £500,000 loan deal for Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez, with a view to a £6m permanent move, Tottenham have yet to seal the deal for the Spanish shot stopper.

As a result, it's claimed that Tottenham have now opened talks with Valencia over a deal for Diego Alves, making the Brazilian a fallback option in case a deal for top target Lopez falls through.

Alves, 31, is behind Australian international Mathew Ryan in the pecking order at Valencia, and is allegedly being targeted by Spurs ahead of tonight's transfer deadline.

A Brazilian international with eight caps to his name, Alves is an experienced goalkeeper with more than 300 club appearances during his career over spells with Atletico Mineiro, Almeria and now Valencia.

Spurs will be hoping that the deal for Lopez goes through, but if there are any more delays before tonight's deadline, they will hope to have Alves ready to go as a contingency plan.
