According to Dutch magazine Voetbal International, Southampton today entered into talks with Utrecht over a deal to sign striker Sebastien Haller.
The Saints have taken the decision to use Nathan Redmond as a striker so far this season, adding him to Shane Long, Charlie Austin and Jay Rodriguez as their attacking options – but manager Claude Puel may yet want more.

With just two goals scored in three Premier League games, Puel could look to bring in another goalscorer, and a fellow Frenchman appears to be top of his transfer wishlist.
Dutch magazine Voetbal International report that Southampton today held talks with Utrecht, with striker Sebastien Haller the subject of their negotiations.

The powerful, pacy French striker joined Utrecht from Auxerre back in January 2015, and has gone on to score for fun in Dutch football, smashing 38 goals in just 63 games.
Now one of the Eredivisie’s top strikers, it was only a matter of time before interest built in the 22-year-old’s signature – and Southampton are now hoping to beat the deadline with a move for the 6ft 2in centre forward.

It’s claimed that Southampton are expected to pay up to €10m (£8.5m) for Haller, who hit 24 goals last season, with manager Puel leading the pursuit of the striker having been a big of his during his time in France and his performances for the France Under-21’s, who he has scored nine goals in 14 games for.
Haller’s agent Loic Gustan has already spoken to Southampton according to the report, and he had a good feeling about the move – but if a deal doesn’t materialise before Wednesday’s deadline, Haller will allegedly push for a transfer during the winter transfer window, where Southampton may again be in the race for his signature.
