Popular bookmakers SkyBet have installed Leicester as the new 7/4 favourites to sign Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

Speculation has been mounting over the past week regarding the 25-year-old’s future, and McCathy has expressed his desire to leave Goodison Park in the hope of gaining more regular first-team football (Daily Mail).

Newcastle have been heavily linked with a move for the Republic of Ireland international (Daily Mail) while Celtic were rumoured to be stepping up the their pursuit of the Everton man (The Scotsman).

SkyBet have lengthened the odds on McCarthy moving to either of those two clubs, however, with Celtic drifting out to 8/1, while the Magpies are listed at 10/1.

The Foxes have already strengthened their squad considerably after the sale of N’Golo Kante, but the signing of McCarthy would add even further depth to Claudio Ranieri’s midfield options.

The Everton midfielder’s contract does not expire until 2020, so a fairly substantial fee will be required to prise him away from the club.

With the added revenue that comes along with being Premier League champions, however, Leicester would surely be able to offer the Merseysiders a fee that would tempt them into selling.

Should a move come to fruition, it would be one that would benefit all parties involved.
