Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack has spoken of his admiration and fondness for former club Leeds United.

McCormack left Leeds in 2014 for £11 million to sign with Fulham, after a successful spell with the Whites in which he finished as top scorer in multiple seasons and even captained the club.

He recently signed for Aston Villa in a £14 million switch, and hopes he can win promotion and realise his dream of playing in the Premier League.

Speaking on Sky Sports EFL weekly podcast, McCormack said he still feels strongly about the Whites.

He said: “Leeds has always been my sort of club.

“They are the ones I always look out for in the fixture list, when are we playing Leeds, when am I going back to Elland Road. That place will always hold a special place in my heart.”

McCormack added that his eldest son has grown up to be a Leeds fan, and he has promised that when he retires, he will return to the stadium to watch the team.

Leeds have not progressed since McCormack left, principally it could be argued, because the £11 million was not re-invested in signing players of similar quality or price.

His own switch to Fulham was disappointing, with the striker playing well but the team struggling at the wrong end of the table.
