Ritchie de Laet has sent a message to Leicester City fans after leaving the club to join Aston Villa, and has outlined his primary target upon moving to Birmingham.

De Laet has left the Foxes after four years to become Villa’s seventh signing of the summer by signing a three-year deal at the Championship club.

The 27-year-old helped Leicester win promotion from the Championship in 2014 and played 12 times in the Premier League last term as they secured a historic first league title.

He also managed to win promotion yet again in the same season as gaining a title winner’s medal, helping Middlesbrough return to the top flight in a loan spell in the latter months of the campaign.

Now, he has joined the ongoing transformation at Villa and he admitted that he cannot wait to start helping the club getting back “where it belongs”, but not before sending a parting message to Leicester supporters.

The Belgian tweeted: “First I want to thank everyone at Leicester for 4 amazing years at the club. I’m wishing you the players the staff and the supporters all the best.”

“But now I’m delighted to have joined Aston Villa, can’t wait to get started and getting this club up where it belongs.”

De Laet is yet to play a competitive minute of action this season, but Villa fans will be keen to see him in action sooner rather than later.

Right-back has been something of a problem position for the club, and it is anticipated by most that De Laet will replace Alan Hutton as the club’s first-choice player on the right-hand side of defence.
