Victor Wanyama grabbed an 83rd-minute winner as Tottenham Hotspur beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday to get their Premier League campaign up and running.

The summer signing from Southampton planted a header past Wayne Hennessey in the final seven minutes of normal time at White Hart Lane to give Spurs a first victory.

Moments after the goal, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was the picture of passion as the Argentine clenched both fists in celebration of the drama in North London.

There was a familiar face in the opposition first XI as Andros Townsend returned to Tottenham for the first time since joining Newcastle United in January.

The jet-heeled winger was occasionally a problem for left-back Danny Rose, but the England defender seemed to cope well with his former team-mate for the most part.

On the whole it was a very decent win for Spurs with plenty of positives for Pochettino to stew over - including the performance of Vincent Janssen.

One negative, however, may be the performance of Christian Eriksen. The 24-year-old's future in North London seems uncertain, and his display against the Eagles may suggest he has other things on his mind at present.
