Aston Villa took on Derby County yesterday evening, with the final result a well-fought 0-0 draw.

Roberto Di Matteo’s side will probably feel that they should have taken the win from the game. The recently relegated side had some excellent chances to win the game, especially in the first half with Ross McCormack and Gary Gardner both hitting the woodwork.

Villa, who saw striker Rudy Gestede leave the pitch with a hamstring problem, also got to see Libor Kozak back in action.

In the Czech Republic international’s first game since January he had some good moments, although also seemed to still be slightly off the pace.

He also had a great chance to score at the far-post, but missed on the stretch.

Villa fans will also be more impressed with the performance of their goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini.

The Italian has certainly had some moments since his arrival from Hellas Verona, some costly. However, he put in a much more assured display and will have hopefully won over a few doubters as he settles into English football.
