Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama admitted that his goal against Crystal Palace today was 'special', as seen on the club's official Twitter account this evening.

Spurs looked to be heading for a second draw in a row after their 1-1 draw with Everton last weekend, as Crystal Palace were holding firm in today's London derby at White Hart Lane.

However, Spurs did find the winner as Victor Wanyama glanced home from close range after Harry Kane had flicked on a corner kick, and the Kenyan's header proved to be the winning goal.

Tottenham's first win of the new Premier League season is now on the board, and the afternoon clearly meant a lot to goalscorer Wanyama.

The midfielder, 25, reunited with his former Southampton boss Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane this summer, and was seen as the perfect player to compete with Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele in the middle of the park.

Today was Wanyama's White Hart Lane debut as a Tottenham player, and he certainly marked the occasion in style by bagging the winning goal – particularly special for a player whose game is based around defending rather than scoring goals.

After the game, Wanyama spoke to the club's official Twitter account about the game, and admitted it was hard for him to describe his emotions after such a special afternoon.

Wanyama praised the Tottenham fans for their 'unbelievable' support this afternoon, whilst adding that his goal means the world to him given that it was his home debut today.

"It's difficult to explain," said Wanyama. "It means a lot to me, it means the world to me. Getting a goal on my debut and in front of our fans is just amazing. It's the only thing I could have asked for this year, but I'm really grateful. The fans today, they were unbelievable, and that goal...I can't describe it, it's a special goal for me," he added.
