Rangers manager Mark Warburton
This week saw Rangers’ move to sign Joleon Lescott from Aston Villa on a free transfer fail to materialise.
The reasons because of the failure in this deal were mixed.
New owner Dr Tony Xia during the press conference
Not long after it had emerged that the deal had collapsed Aston Villa chairman Tony Xia sent out this tweet regarding the reason behind the deal collapsing:
No. Lescott didn't feel happy with personal term missed which the boss promised. RDM& I are men clear with words! https://t.co/RIjxaISAUP— Dr. Tony Xia (@Dr_TonyXia) August 19, 2016
Those claims do not sit well with Rangers boss Mark Warburton.
Speaking after Rangers’ 2-1 win over Motherwell at Ibrox today the Rangers boss is reported as making it clear family reasons were behind Lescott’s decision to reject a move to Glasgow, before claiming Xia’s statement was ‘absolute nonsense’ – as reported by the Daily Record.
Aston Villa's Joleon Lescott goes off injured
Warburton is not one to mince his words and it is clear he was not pleased with what the Aston Villa supremo had to say about the deal.
Rangers are now set to move on with former Aston Villa defender Philippe Senderos seemingly a free agent option at the back.
