The 27-year-old stood out for Leeds United at Hillsborough.
Leeds United kick-started their Championship campaign by beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 at Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.
Leeds, without a win in any of their first three league outings, took the lead through striker Marcus Antonsson on 63 minutes, before Chris Wood made sure of the victory on 85 minutes by doubling the lead.
It was just what the doctor ordered after a tricky few weeks for Whites boss Garry Monk who, under the circumstances, must have been slightly worried for his job.
But there is fresh signs of life in Leeds - who won a last-gasp point in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Fulham - and one of the reasons for the renewed optimism is Liam Bridcutt.
The 27-year-old midfielder made his second debut for the club against Wednesday after re-signing on Tuesday, and he appeared to make a big impact against the Owls.
Leeds and Sunderland took their time in thrashing out a deal, culminating in something of a transfer saga, but Bridcutt, who lined up alongside the excellent Ronaldo Vieira in midfield, certainly looks like he was worth the wait - and fans agree.
@kennybrown1964 ye Bridcutt made huge difference. Gaffered it and said to young mids "go and play". Sacko did well pudil is poor tho— sam (@sam51h) August 20, 2016
I honestly think Jansson in CM with Bridcutt could be unreal.— Matt Greenwood (@MattistutaG) August 20, 2016
@APOPEY Bridcutt made a massive difference to whoever was at cb today, Bartley and Cooper both more than capable at this level— Stuart McGillivray (@s2mcg81) August 20, 2016
Just let someone know about Liam Bridcutt.. Head and shoulders— Lee Jones (@LeeJones56) August 20, 2016
Sacko is such a class wingerayling is quality, Bridcutt the missing piece in the midfield. Quality performance #lufc— LUFCDANNY (@THELUFCLAD) August 20, 2016
Liam Bridcutt is the best signing that Garry Monk has made this season. Totally different with him. Top class today. #lufc— Jake Beales-Hobson (@JakeBealoJourno) August 20, 2016
Bridcutt's a class act. Protected a very shaky centre half pairing. Was the difference today #swfc— Charlie Kitson (@kitsonswfc) August 20, 2016
Sacko MOTM for me, but only able to do what he does because Bridcutt and Vieira made central midfield stable. Fantastic.— I Hate Leeds (@ihatelufc) August 20, 2016
