Leeds United picked up their first Championship win under Garry Monk on Saturday.

Monk's troops travelled to Hillsborough for a Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday and left with a 2-0 victory.

Marcus Antonsson and Chris Wood did the damage in what Monk will be hoping proves to a watershed moment in his Leeds career.

The 38-year-old had lost his first two games as Whites boss - a 3-0 defeat at QPR and a 2-1 loss to Birmingham City last week - but a last-gasp 1-1 draw with Fulham on Tuesday night stemmed the tide of poor results for the former Swansea boss.

Beating the Owls - last season's beaten finalists in the playoff - was a big indication that Leeds are beginning to gel under Monk, and the man himself took to Twitter to dedicate the victory to the fans and suggest that United are going in the right direction.

Monk and co visit Kenilworth Road on Tuesday for a second-round League Cup clash with Luton Town, before turning their attention to Saturday as a tricky trip to Nottingham Forest then awaits - the last game before the dreaded international break.
