Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has suggested to The Mirror that Leeds United head coach Garry Monk needs to be given time.

Monk was appointed as the Leeds head coach in the summer following the departure of Steve Evans at the end of last season.

The former Swansea City boss is one of the most talented young managers in England, but the 37-year-old is reportedly under pressure already.

According to The Mirror, Leeds owner Massimo Cellino is losing confidence in Monk because of the team’s poor start to the 2016-17 Championship campaign.

The West Yorkshire, who are aiming to finish in the top six this season, have yet to win a league match this campaign.

It has been reported that Cellino is watching Monk closely and could sack him if Leeds suffer another bad defeat.

Wednesday manager Carvalhal believes that the Leeds head coach needs to be given time.

“They have new ideas, a new coach and new players,” Carvalhal told The Mirror about Leeds. “These kind of things take time. They are starting a process like we did last season.

“After seven games, we had five or six points. We didn’t start well. We had some problems at the beginning and Leeds are in this process.”

Wednesday will take on Leeds at the Hillsborough Stadium in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls, who narrowly failed to win promotion to the Premier League at the end of last season, will head into this afternoon’s match as favourites.
