Torino have stepped back from their pursuit of Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic, according to The Daily Mail.

It has been reported that the Italian club are concerned with the 22-year-old centre-back's lack of fitness.

The Croatian youngster is only in light training at the moment, as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.

The Daily Mail has claimed that Serie A outfit Torino only want a player who can slot straight into their first team.

The Daily Mail claimed of Torino’s interest in Simunovic earlier this month. It was reported that the Serie A outfit were hoping to finalise a £4.5 million deal for the defender.

Simunovic joined Celtic from Dinamo Zagreb in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Record to be worth £5.5m.

The youngster is a talented and promising defender, but he struggled with injuries last season.

As reported by The Daily Mail, Simunovic could make just 17 appearances for the Bhoys during the 2015-16 campaign.

Perhaps it would be best for the youngster if he remains at Celtic for the 2016-17 campaign.
