Sunderland have offered Lamine Kone a new contract in order to fend off interest from Everton, according to The Sun.

It has been reported by the British tabloid that Sunderland manager David Moyes has offered the defender a new £50,000-a-week contract in order to convince him to remain at the Black Cats this season.

Everton are reported to be interested in signing Kone from Premier League rivals Sunderland before the end of the summer transfer window.

It has been reported by The Sun that the new deal would see the 27-year-old’s salary at Sunderland rise by almost 50%.

However, The Daily Mail has reported that Kone has turned down the new contract offer from Sunderland.

According to the report, the former Chateauroux and Lorient defender has rejected the new deal in order to force through a move to Everton.

Kone joined Sunderland from French club Lorient in the January transfer window and was a key figure in the Black Cats’ successful quest to fend off relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2015-16 season.
