Former Queens Park Rangers and Rangers midfielder Ray Wilkins suggested on the Alan Brazil Up Front podcast a reason why Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion in the summer transfer window.

According to a recent report in The Sun, Arsenal want to sign Evans from Premier League rivals West Brom this month.

However, according to the report, the Baggies will refuse to sell the former Manchester United defender.

Former Chelsea and United midfielder Wilkins has given his opinion on the speculation, suggesting that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants the 28-year-old because of his Champions League experience with the Red Devils.

“I think Arsene is looking at the Champions League aspect as well,” said Wilkins on the Alan Brazil Up Front podcast.

“He has played in that, so he knows his way around the Champions League. Obviously Arsenal are still in it.”

Evans, who is 28 years of age, joined West Brom from Premier League rivals United in the summer of 2015.

The Northern Ireland international scored one goal and created nine chances in 30 Premier League appearances for the Baggies last season.

The former United man is a good defender, but does he has the quality to play for a Premier League title contender?

West Brom will take on Everton at The Hawthorns in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
