There was no doubts over Pogba playing a part in Friday night’s match at Old Trafford - the only debate manager Jose Mourinho left open was if he was to start or not.
The eagerly-awaited team news arrived an hour before kick off and on the sheet in midfield with Marouane Fellaini was the Frenchman.
Pogba was making his bow as the world’s most expensive player for the first time since sealing his £89 million return to United from Juventus.
Considering he hadn’t played since the Euro 2016 final, the midfielder recovered from a shaky first touch to produce a top performance in the first half.
Pogba had 61 touches in the opening period, 27 more than any of his teammates. A skip past four players from the halfway line to the Saints box was only a mere indication of how much he had already brought to the midfield.
You would think Pogba would have tire during the second half, though he only got better and better. His flicks, tricks, directness and impetus helped United control in a superbly composed box-to-box showing from the record breaking man.
As all of his last seven appearances came from the bench, this was his first start in the famous red shirt. And here is how the United fans on Twitter reacted to it…
Very impressed with Pogba to say he's lacking match fitness, he looked a class above.— JB (@bealymufc) August 19, 2016
This is what I meant/feared. Because of his price people will pick up on that first bad touch. Pogba looked the business.— Alex Shaw (@AlexShawESPN) August 19, 2016
Pogba up and down the field for 90 minutes without a pre-season. Absolutely superb.— Luke (@LukeLessUnited) August 19, 2016
Pogba looks so good. Gets the ball, spins and drives us forward. This is exciting football. Been a while. But we can bully when needed #mufc— Roy (@Rvk2a) August 19, 2016
Pogba is absolute quality dear god he's insane.— Keith Russell (@Keith_Russell) August 19, 2016
Pogba was somewhat overshadowed on his big occasion, however. It seems Zlatan Ibrahimovic can’t stop scoring, with the Swede rising high and heading home explosively from a Wayne Rooney cross for the opener 10 minutes from the first half whistle.
He made it four goals from three competitive appearances by converting a penalty won by Luke Shaw just after half-time, which secured United’s first three home points of the season in a dominant display. What did the fans make of the 2-0 win?…
Utd with swagger is a beautiful sight.— Pilib de Brún (@Malachians) August 19, 2016
The performance was fine, considering everything. Baillyenbauer exceptional again, finishing aside Martial was fine, Fellaini was good.— Volleyball fan James (@JamesBusher) August 19, 2016
That was fun— GirlOnUtd (@GirlOnUtd) August 19, 2016
Brilliant win tonight, good performance and wonderful 3 points top class from the lads #MUFC— The United One (@MainManMemphis) August 19, 2016

It’s only three matches, but Manchester United looks excellent and especially confident up front. Good signings all around.— Rafael Hernández (@RafaelH117) August 19, 2016
