Reports in Germany have shed light on the rumours linking Tottenham Hotspur with a move for Mainz midfielder Yunus Malli.

It is reported by Fussball News in Germany that Malli did have contact with Spurs regarding a transfer this summer.

However, the report also claims that the Turkish international informed the English club of his desire to remain in the Bundesliga at this point in his career. Without a recognised bid from a German team for his services Malli will remain with Mainz.

It was reported by The Daily Mail earlier this summer that the Turkish international was being considered as a cheap alternative to Georginio Wijnaldum – who went on to join Liverpool from Newcastle United.

The 24-year-old, who notched 11 goals and four assists from midfield last season, had a release clause of €10 million (£8.4 million). That clause ran out on the 31st July and it appears Tottenham will not be luring the talented maestro to White Hart Lane in the current transfer window.

Tottenham are believed to still be keen on bringing in another central midfielder this summer, with Sporting’s Adrien Silva the most recent name to be linked.
