Tottenham Hotspur are eager to complete a move for Espanyol and Spanish Under-21 goalkeeper Pau Lopez before their weekend match against Crystal Palace, according to the Mirror.

Mauricio Pochettino has been linked to the 21-year-old after managing him during his stint at charge of the Barcelona side, when Lopez would have been a young starlet with the club's youth teams.

But the goalkeeper has flourished in the last couple of years, and was first choice for the La Liga outfit last season despite his young age - helping them to a mid-table finish.

Tottenham will have to work hard to get the deal done before Friday's 12pm deadline for the Spaniard to be available for the match against the Eagles, otherwise it is likely Luke McGee will deputise.

Lopez made such an impression last season that he was called up to Spain's full squad for their friendly with Bosnia and Herzegovina ahead of the European Championships in May, and Pochettino will be hoping he can continue to develop at White Hart Lane.

Spurs are set to be without first choice and captain Hugo Lloris for the next four weeks after his opening-day injury to Everton, leaving only Michel Vorm as a senior goalkeeper.

The North Londoners are hoping to tie up a loan deal for Lopez to come in as backup to the Dutchman, with a view to a permanent £6 million move next summer, suggests the Mirror report.
