Former Sheffield Wednesday loanee Vincent Sasso has been released by his club Braga, according to A Bola.

The 25-year-old Frenchman spent last season on loan at Hillsborough, featuring in 19 games as the club came desperately close to winning promotion to the Premier League.

The news comes just one day after reports suggested Sheffield Wednesday were hoping to bring Sasso back to Yorkshire.

The Star reported yesterday that Wednesday were looking at bringing back Sasso on a temporary basis to relieve their centre-back problems.

Now it seems he might be available on a more permanent basis following his apparent release.

Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal has confirmed that the Owls are hoping to add a defender in the coming days and it looks increasingly likely that the player who arrives will be Sasso.

The Owls are facing something of a defensive shortage with Tom Lees, Jose Semedo and Glenn Loovens all currently out of action injured.

The club have struggled without Lees in particular, losing 3-1 to Burton Albion in midweek, and hopefully the arrival of Sasso will help them be more secure at the back.
