Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott is willing to join Rangers before the end of the summer transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun.

It has been reported that Lescott has agreed to leave Championship club Villa and move to Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers.

According to the report, the 34-year-old defender will sign a two-year contract in time for Saturday's Scottish Premiership match against Motherwell at Ibrox.

The Scottish Sun reported earlier this week that Rangers manager Mark Warburton had met the former West Bromwich Albion defender in Manchester in order to discuss the transfer.

It now seems that the Rangers boss has been able to convince the English centre-back to leave former Premier League outfit Villa and switch to the Gers.

Rangers have been quite busy in the summer transfer window so far, signing Joey Barton, Clint Hill, Jordan Rossiter and Niko Kranjcar among others.

The Gers are aiming to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season.

Rangers will head into the game against Motherwell on Saturday on the back of a 2-1 victory over Dundee away from home in the Scottish Premiership.
