Rafael Benitez has said that he will listen to offers for Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul, according to the Chronicle Live.

The 28-year-old is yet to feature for Newcastle this season after a cruciate knee injury put him on the sidelines for over 10 months.

However, with his return imminent, coach Rafael Benitez has made it clear that he would be open to offers for the player. He said: “We cannot keep five 'keepers for the whole season. If we can have a solution before; he is getting fitter, but it depends on if anyone is interested. If they are, then we will listen to them”.

Benetiz has been placed in an interesting situation at Newcastle with, on Krul’s return, five goalkeepers at his disposal. Karl Darlow, Rob Elliot, Freddie Woodman and current number one Matz Sels are all fighting for one place in the side.

This is in stark contrast to seasons gone by in which injuries ravaged Newcastle’s goalkeeping options throughout the campaign.

Many people outside Newcastle may query Benitez’s decision to spark transfer interest in Krul, however, many Newcastle fans are extremely frustrated about having such an undeniably talented goalkeeper who is so injury prone.

With the Championship season one which does not slow down for a second, Newcastle will need their entire squad to be fit and ready to go whenever they are called upon. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been something that Krul can provide in recent times with his top-class goalkeeping tainted by a string of long term injuries.

If Krul were to leave then, where would he go? Crystal Palace and Juventus have been linked according to the Chronicle Live, while the likes of Borussia Dortmund in Germany and West Ham, while not officially linked with him, would also benefit from having such an experienced goalkeeper in their ranks.
