Newcastle United are the latest English club after, notably, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur, to be linked with a move for FC Utrecht striker Sebastien Haller.

Haller has found the net in both of his matches so far this season, having scored 24 goals in all competitions in 2015-16, and according to L'Equipe (via GFFN) Newcastle have made an enquiry to gauge the player's interest.

The Magpies are still keen on adding to their attacking ranks despite a double from summer signing Dwight Gayle in Wednesday's 4-1 win against Reading.

However, L'Equipe reports they are currently lagging behind Sporting CP in pursuit of Haller, with the Portuguese giants engaged in 'serious talks' as they look to replace sought-after star Islam Slimani.

Prospective buyers may have to fork out £12.9 million to land the 22-year-old, which was the bid reportedly lodged by Guangzhou Evergrande before the close of the Chinese transfer window. However, Haller is said to have turned down that particular move.

Haller began his career at Auxerre in his homeland and has scored nine goals in 14 appearances for France Under-21s.
