Is this the first XI Monk should pick for Leeds against Sheffield Wednesday?

Sheffield Wednesday

Leeds United clash with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on the weekend.

To be played on Saturday 20th August 2016 at 12:30. Venue: Hillsborough, Sheffield

Odds: Sheff Wed 3/4, Draw 23/10, Leeds 7/2

Leeds United visit Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday hoping for a first victory in a Championship season which has not really started for the Whites just yet.

Chris Wood was on hand to grab a last-minute equaliser in Tuesday's 1-1 home draw with Fulham as Leeds avoided a third straight Championship defeat to start the campaign.

Garry Monk will be relieved to get a point on the board, but the 38-year-old manager will know a big performance is needed if his side are to add three more points to their meagre total as they gear up to face last season's beaten play-off finalists at Hillsborough

It has been an encouraging last few days on the transfer front and Monk might welcome new signings Liam Bridcutt and defender Pontus Janssen into the matchday squad - but they seem unlikely to start.

The returning Liam Cooper looked decent alongside Kyle Bartley at the heart of United's defence against the Cottagers, minimising the need to throw Janssen into the mix immediately, while Bridcutt may be a bit short on match fitness following his move from Sunderland this week.

As a result, 20-year-old Kalvin Phillips might keep his place in the first XI after giving a good account of himself in midfield on Tuesday, while Hadi Sacko could come into the fold and line up on one of the flanks, with Pablo Hernandez on the other side.

Marcus Antonsson missed another good chance for his first league goal and Monk may be tempted to deploy Kemar Roofe up front alongside Wood, who will surely keep his place after being praised by the ex-Swansea boss following his late show this week.
